Nested South to the mighty Dahuladhar range and around 9 KMs North-West from Dharamshala, Kareri Lake is a lesser known yet a must visit place. This lake is reached by trekking through the forests and meadows. Kareri Lake is a high-altitude, freshwater lake whose surface is 2934m above sea level. The source of this shallow lake is fresh melting snow, hence the visibility of its water is very clear. The trek to Kareri Lake is about 13 KMs, which goes through Reoti Village, some serene meadows, and Nyund river. After reaching the lake, a temple on a hilltop dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Shakti is visible which overlooks the lake from the top. You may also come across some gaddis(local shepherds), who live around and their cattle graze on the nearby meadow ground. This pristine lake remains frozen in winters and the scene is absolutely stunning.

The trek to Kareri Lake is easy to moderate with few sections which can be slightly difficult but apart from that the trek is very beautiful and adventurous.
