Kareri Lake is located south of the Dhauladhar ranges. It is 2,934m above sea level and can be reached by trekking through the green subtropical pine forest. It is one of the most scenic spots and is known for being a great trekking destination in the state. Overlooking the lake is a hilltop temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Shakti. Kareri Lake gets its water supply from the melted snow of the Dhauladhars and its surrounding glaciers. Visiting this high-altitude lake is convenient for a tourist going from Dharamshala or McLeodganj. It is an easy trek and the lake offers an excellent camping opportunity. The nearest airport to Kareri is in Dharamshala(DHM) Kangra Airport, and Dharamshala is 27 km away from Kareri Village. It takes 1.5 hours to reach Kareri.
The nearest railway station to Dharamshala is Kangra(KGRA-narrow gauge) and Pathankot Cantt. (PTKC-broad gauge) from there you can hire a taxi or take a bus from the Dharamshala bus stand.

You can reach Dharamshala easily by road and also enjoy the weather on your way. Dharmshala and Mcleoganj both are among the major tourist destinations in Himachal. HRTC regulates numerous buses from all nearby cities for Dharamshala, both regular and Deluxe. If you were arriving from Delhi, you can easily access a bus from ISBT Kashmere Gate. An overnight bus will be a good choice because you can take a rest through the journey. Direct buses to Mcleodganj are also easily accessible which will be adequate than boarding for Dharamshala.
