Referred to as the Sea of Milk, owing to its milk colour the majestic four-tiered Dudhsagar Waterfall is located on the evergreen trees of the western ghats in the Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary. At the height of 1017ft, Mandovi River finds its way from western ghats and gushes down, looking exactly like milk being procured from the top of the mountain range. The waterfall attracts major tourist attractions in the monsoon season. There are many trains that pass through the dudhsagar waterfall but don't halt there. This is also a reason why most people prefer coming from trains for the scenic beauty rather than taking the flight. There is a short story behind the name of this waterfall, the locals believe and say that the daughter of the King of Ghats was taking a bath in the lake and drank milk from the jug which was made of gold with a precious diamond being embedded. One day a Prince was passing through the woods on his horse and he saw the daughter of the King, to protect the Princess from the other man. Her maidens poured the milk from the jug and a curtain of milk was formed to protect the princess. This is the reason as per the locals of Goa why the waterfall is called dudhsagar waterfall.
