Kasol

Kasol History

Kasol is a beautiful village, located on the banks of the Parvati River in Himachal Pradesh. Kasol is one of the best places for scenic treks and is a spiritual place to discover yourself. Kheerganga trek is one of the famous treks and there is a temple here, dedicated to Lord Kartikeya. Kheerganga, the place where ‘kheer used to flow like a river, is believed to be a sacred place and has an intriguing story behind it. Lord Shiva, along with Mata Parvati, Lord Ganesha, and Lord Kartikeya used to reside here. Once Lord Ganesha and Kartikeya quarreled over the question, ‘Who is mightier?”. Hence, they decided to compete by going around the world 3 times on their respective vahanas. Kartikeya, being swift, rode on his peacock and started for his first round. Whereas Ganesha being smart, simply took 3 rounds of his parents, on the Mushak. When Kartikeya returned, to his surprise, his younger brother was declared the winner as Ganesha also took 3 rounds of his world, his parents. Kartikeya was annoyed but Mata Parvati appreciated the efforts of Kartikeya and he was blessed by his mother. He was granted a river of his favorite dish, ‘Kheer’, which flowed there like a never-ending river. The flowing kheer was relished by everyone until the arrival of Kalyug, as increasing greed and flam stopped the flow of kheer, and since then, hot spring water flows there and one can still see the creamy kheer like texture in this water. This exceptional backdrop makes Kheerganga a divine and must-visit place.
