A small and unexplored town of Uttarakhand located near the Ramnagar town and the Jim Corbett National Park, which is known for its tiger reserve, Marchula is also known as the Central Hub of the national park. Marchula is surrounded by forest land and is an offbeat destination for people who want to explore new places and want to be close to nature. Marchula is located 571m above sea level. Marchula is also known for its bridge that is built over the river of Ramganga. Marchula is a perfect destination to enjoy an offbeat destination in Uttarakhand with the perfect blend of rivers, mountains, and deep forests. 

Geography Of Marchula

Marchula is considered the central hub of Jim Corbett national park. The distance from Delhi to Marchula is about 285 km it takes around 7 hours to reach the destination. Marchula is known for the deep forest the place has which provides a peek of the wildlife of the Jim Corbett national park. A river named Ramganga flows through the village of Marchula, the total length of the river is 596 km, the village of Marchula has many tree varieties some of those are pine and sal and many more, from the main market one, can get a great view of Himalayas. Marchula is located near one of the major towns of Uttarakhand called Ramnagar.

Jim Corbett National Park

Jim Corbett National Park is one of the oldest national parks of India, made in 1936. The national park is popularly known for the Bengal Tigers. Leopards and wild elephants are also popular in this park that can be spotted sometimes from a distance in Marchula. One of the top-visited destinations for tiger spotting and many more animals and to enjoy the deep forest areas of Jim Corbett National Park. The Jim Corbett national park is one of the oldest national parks has a deep and interesting history from how tigers were poached in the area and how the constant efforts that were made to save the tigers.

Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary

The Sonanadi wildlife sanctuary or the Sona-Nadi wildlife sanctuary derives its name from SonaNadi which means the river of gold. The wildlife sanctuary lies between two national parks: The Jim Corbett national park and the Rajaji national park. Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary is famous for elephants, tigers, deers, and reptiles that one can see from the jeep safari at the Sonanadi wildlife sanctuary. The Sonanadi wildlife sanctuary is one of the small but amazing wildlife sanctuaries, to go on and explore while in the sanctuary one can get to see the many types of flora and fauna and can enjoy and relax in the calmness of the wildlife sanctuary.

Ramganga River

The river of Ramganga originates from the southern slopes of Dudhatoli hill in Pauri Garhwal district and passes through Marchula. In Marchula, the Ramganga gives an amazing view of the Himalayas and the river which makes it an amazing spot for camping or picnicking. The banks of the Ramganga river are the best to enjoy the views of the Marchula and relax and have a picnic with the pleasant sound of the gushing Ramganga river, the soothing winds and the calmness of the place makes it a great spot to be at.

Crocodile Viewpoint

After crossing the Marchula bridge, from the road towards the downside on the bank of river Ramganga river, one can easily spot some CROCODILES and the GRADIYALS ( crocodiles with the long and narrow mouth) resting under the sun and the river banks.

Places to Visit near Marchula

Ramnagar (approx 35.5 Km from Marchula)

One of the major towns near Marchula is Ramnagar, the distance between Marchula and Ramnagar is 35.5 km and it takes around 1 hour 15 minutes to reach the destination. Many places like Garjiya Temple, Corbett falls, Corbett Museum are beautiful attractions near the Marchula, Ramnagar station. Ramnagar is one of the major towns near Jim Corbett national bank from where one can easily reach the hub of Jim Corbett that is Marchula.

Girija Temple (approx 23.2 Km from Marchula)

One of the Shaktipeeth made after the Death of Goddess Sati is the Girija temple in Ramnagar. The temple has 72 stairs built on the banks of river Ramganga and has the most beautiful views of the mountains. The temple has a lot of significance in the local region and many believers who worship the goddess Girija Mata.

Dhangarhi Museum (approx 17.4 Km)

The Dhangarhi Museum is one of the best visiting places for people visiting Marchula and Ramnagar, the distance from Marchula is 17km which takes 38 minutes to reach the destination. The museum is on the Dhangarhi gate of the national park which showcases the life of Corbett. The museum reflects the formation of Jim Corbett National Park and the struggles involved in saving the Bengal Tiger that was coming to an end in the region.

Nainital Lake (99.1 Km from Marchula)

Nainital lake is one of the most beautiful locations to visit in Uttarakhand. The lake is a fresh body lake which originates from the tectonic, also the lake lies 1938 m above the sea level. The Nainital lake is around 3 hours away from Marchula that is 103 km. One of the top-visited destinations in Uttarakhand is the beautiful lake of Nainital which is also a hill station destination and people like to visit Nainital for its cold kind of weather that one can experience throughout the year.

Marchula  Weather And Temperature 

Marchula, just like any other Himalayan destination, has various and different kinds of climate throughout the year. The Marchula has foggy mornings in the winters and pleasant days. In the summers in Marchula, the temperature goes from 30-degree Celsius to 40-degree celsius as considering it as high summers for the location, leading towards the heavy rains that follow the monsoon seasons that bring the flooded river of Ramganga with it.

Marchula in Summers

During the summer season in Marchula, the days are pleasant in the month of March and April and highly hot days in the month of May and June. The nights are pleasant, good for stargazing, and calm nights of Marchula and Jim Corbett national park. The park is not open for tourists during the summer season due to the hot weather and fewer water resources also for the safety of the animals.

Marchula in Monsoon

During the monsoon season in Marchula, the days are with heavy rains and humid kind of weather comes up, due to rainfall come areas of the Jim Corbett are closest as it is unsafe to visit them, the hot and humid hits only in the month of September rest monsoon is calm with heavy rain and calm weather.

How to Reach Marchula

The village of Marchula can be reached by 3 modes of transportation by air from Delhi to Pantnagar that is the nearest airport, by railways from Delhi to Ramnagar that is the nearest railway station, and from the road, Delhi to directly to Marchula.

Marchula by Air

  • The nearest airport from Marchula is the Pantnagar Airport. The distance covered by the flight is 226 km and takes approximately 2 hours to reach. From Pantnagar to Marchula it takes 3 hours that covers 118.5 km through National Highway 309.

Marchula by Railways 

  • From Delhi, one can get to Marchula by train. The nearest station is Ramnagar, the train takes a minimum time of 5 hours 15 minutes to reach Ramnagar. From Ramnagar, one can easily get to Marchula by a can that takes only 1 hour to reach Marchula and the distance covered is 35 km.

Marchula by Road

  • Marchula can be easily accessed by the road, as the destination has well-defined road networks throughout Delhi and other major cities, one can reach the destination by bus, car, or taxi. The bus to Marchula from Delhi takes around 11 hours to reach and costs around 1800 - 2000 INR. The cab or personal vehicle will take less time 6 to 7 hours to reach and the distance covered will be around 300 kilometers.
