Karnaprayag History

Karnaprayag is the land of legendary God Karna (a character in ancient Mahabharat). Karna is the son of Princess Kunti who was also the mother of Pandavas and God sun Surya. In Mahabharat Karna worshipped his father God Sun for several years for the invincible power or shield that he can’t lose the battle of field, There is an ancient temple in Karnaprayag dedicated to the  Goddess Uma Devi first wife of Lord Shiva and rebirth as Goddess Parvati.  There are the five Prayags also known as Panch-Prayag in which Karanprayag is third. Panch Prayag is the confluence of rivers that take place, Vishnuprayag, Nandprayag, Karnapryag, Rudraprayag and Prayagraj(Allahabad). It is one of the best pilgrimage sites for Hindu devotees and comes in route of Char Dham Yatra. In the 19th century, the Great Indian Monk Swami Vivekanand had spent their time in Karanprayag with his Guru, Guru Turianand Ji, and Akharanand Ji and did the meditation for eighteen days.

Karnaprayag Geography

Karnaprayag is located in the Chamoli District, a part of the Garhwal division in Uttarakhand. The river in Karnaprayag is the confluence of the Pindar River which is made through the melting of ice from Pindari Glacier and  Alaknanda River, as Karanprayag is elevated at 1451 meters and surrounded by the panoramic view of surrounding and the beautiful peaks like Nanda Devi, Trishul, Maiktoli, etc. The city has around seven thousand population with an average ratio of sixty and forty percent of male and female respectively. The average literacy rate of Karnaprayag city is seventy-six percent.

Uma Devi Temple

The Uma Devi temple is located at the main bazaar of Karnaprayag, according to history researchers temple was built in the 8th century by Adi Shankaracharya, as the holy temple lies from the era of Mahabharat, Uma Devi temple was dedicated to the daughter of the Himalayas Goddess Parvati or Gauri wife of Lord Shiva, Now this temple is one of the shakti peethas in India, the Best time to visit the Uma Devi temple is Navratri where many cultural activities and fairs take place. The local and religious people are very possessive and maintained very well where lakh of devotees came every year.

Adi Badri Temple

Adi Badri temple belongs to the second temple of the Sapta Badri. The temple is 3 km from Chandpur fort, located in Chamoli District Uttarakhand, the nearest city is Karnaprayag which is in the distance of 17 km, Adi Badri is one of the famous and ancient pilgrimage sites for Hindus as the meaning of Adi is ancient and Badri is the name of Lord Vishnu. Adi Badri temple consists of sixteen temples, that were built in the 5th to 8th century by the Gupta Rulers. The main temple is the Narayana temple made in a pyramidal shape where you find a Statue of Lord Vishnu about 3.3ft black stone with a mace, chakra, and lotus. The Adi Badri temples opened from the Makar Sankranti festival till  October and the visiting hours in the morning are 5 AM to midnight its 2 PM to 9 PM

Nandaprayag

Nandaprayag is located between the Karnaprayag and Gopeshwar with the same distance of 20 km in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. Nandaprayag is the second Prayag of the Panch Prayag, where is the confluence of the Alaknanda River and Mandakini River, The whole town is covered with mountainous terrain, Nandaprayag is the perfect gateway for the adventure lover trekking, skiing, rock climbing, and for local sightseeing Nanda temple is the most famous places who can fulfill your wishes.

Nauti Village

Nauti village is a home of thousand peoples, as the Nauti village is known for the home of Goddess Nanda and Village of Goddess Sita Mata and also the inaugural or aarambh place for the greatest  Nanda Raj Jat Yatra which is held only after 12 years consecutively, the famous Nanda Raj Jat Yatra is one of the longest yatras of 280 km covered by foot. Nauti village is the border of Chamoli District and Tehri Garhwal District, while the distance between the Karnaprayag and Nauti village is around 22kms

Karna Temple

It is located near the meeting point of Alaknanda River and Pindar River, It said the God Karna used to do mediated to his father sun god for the impregnable shield that would help in the battle of Mahabharat. The temple is well surrounded by green trees and enchanting calmness, Many visitors come to this place and do prayers for their wishes to make them true.

Chandika Devi Temple, Simli

Chandika Devi Temple also called Sri Raj Rajeshwari Chandika Mata Mandir is dedicated to the Goddess Kalika or kali (among of ten tantric goddesses). The temple is located just 5 km from the Karnaprayag in small-town Simli. Earlier in this ancient temple devotees used to sacrificed the animals to get their wishes fulfilled now, these rituals end, every year thousands of pilgrimages come with fresh milk and coconut to offer the goddess,

Karnaprayag is connected with motorable roads, If you are looking for a major Railway station and Airports can lead to loose your tight pockets and precious time. The nearest railway station from Karanprayag is Rishikesh (165km)  while the closest domestic airport from Karnapryag is Jolly Grant Airport(188 km) as for bus transportation Rudraprayag (30km) is a famous bus stand. The distance from New Delhi to Karnaprayag is 400 km, Karnaprayag town is also connected to the NH-58 (Ghaziabad-Badrinath)

Karnaprayag by Train

As the closest railway station from Karanprayag is Rishikesh (170km) which mostly connects the main city of Uttarakhand, As the major station from Karnapryag is Haridwar Junction (200km) where most of the express and specials trains have a stoppage. There are many cabs and tourist buses are available that head towards the Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Joshimath, Nandaprayag, and Karnapryag.
