Beas Kund History

Beas Kund is an emerald lake popular for its trek. Beas Kund trek is one of the most popular treks of Manali, taking you to the serene beauty, farther from the hustling crowd of Manali. Beas Kund is a perfect weekend destination preferred by all age groups as the trek to Beas Kund is an easy trek of a minimum of two days with no trekking experience required. Beas Kund is the origin of the source of river Beas that flows through the town of Manali. Beas Kund is secured by an igloo-shaped stone which is believed to be sacred for Hindus.  Beas River was anciently known as Vipas or Arjiki and the ancient Greeks called it Hyphasis. According to the inscription, it is said, Rishi Vyas took his regular bath here. Beas Kund is regarded as divine by the Hindus. The current name Beas comes from sage Vyas who wrote the great inscription Mahabharata. The Beas River was one of the rivers which created difficulty in Alexander's incursion of India. Beas river marks the eastern border of Alexander the Great's setback in 326 BCE.

Geography

Beas Kund is an alpestrine lake located at an elevation of  3620 meters in the lap of Mt. Hanuman Tibba and the Seven Sisters in the Valley of Kullu. Beas Kund is the origin of River Beas that gushes through Manali. The trek to Beas Kund starts from Dhundi village it is the last village with the proper roads for the Beas Kund Trek. The Beas Kund trek can be completed within 2 days or can be stretched for 4 days. The route from Dhundi further heads to Bakartach and further commencing towards Beas KundDhundi to Beas Kund distance is approximately 6.7 km.

Solang Valley 

Solang Valley, also known as the ‘snow valley’ is located at an altitude of 2560 meters, is a popular high altitude destination of Manali. The Valley of Solang is situated between the River Beas and the Solang Village. Solang valley is famous for its adventure activities. Every season has different adventure activities. Paragliding, Parachuting, Skiing, mountaineering, and trekking are popular activities in Solang Valley. The Winter Skiing Festival is also held in Solang Valley. One can commence their trek from Solang Valley to Beas Kund. Solang Valley to Beas Kund distance is approximately 15 km. 

Manali

Manali being the ‘Honeymoon Capital of India’ is one of the most popular tourist destinations of Himachal Pradesh. Manali has also evolved itself into a popular workation destination. Manali has many cafes, eateries, shopping centers, and many more luring the youngers to visit the place twice and then again. Manali is also a starting point to many popular treks in Himachal Pradesh. Manali is situated at an elevation of around 1800 meters to 2000 meters. The most common starting point of the Beas Kund trek in Manali. Manali to Beas Kund distance is approximately 28 km.

Rohtang Pass

Rohtang Pass is one of the highest altitude motorable passes. Rohtang Pass is at an elevation of 3978 km. Rohtang Pass connects Lahul and Spiti located in the Pir Pranjal range of the Himalayas. The pass is connected by two ends, one is from the Manali side via Gulaba, and another is from Solang Valley via Atal Tunnel. A permit is required to enter Rohtang Pass. Rohtang Pass to Beas Kund distance is approximately 56.6 km.

Atal Tunnel

Atal Tunnel is the World’s longest Highway Tunnel stretched at a length of 9.2 km attracting a huge number of visitors to Solang Valley. The tunnel is located on route NH03, Leh-Manali Highway. It bypasses the Rohtang Pass on Leh-Manali Highway. The Atal tunnel has made Lahaul-Spiti more accessible.  The distance between Atal Tunnel and Beas Kund is 51.1 km 

Jogini Waterfalls

Jogini Waterfalls is located near the Vashisht Village. The waterfall is formed by a stream and merges into the Beas River. Jogini Mata Temple is also situated just nearby Jogini Waterfall. Himachali locals perform their children’s first 'mundan' or tonsure here. Jogini waterfall trek is quite a popular short trek preferred by many en route to the Vashist temple passing tall pine trees, small streams, and apple orchards. Jogini waterfalls to Beas Kund distance is approximately 22.3 km.

Vashisht 

Vashisht is a hamlet village popular for its Hot Sulphuric Springs. The hot water spring of Vashisht is situated in the Vashisht temple. The temple timings are restricted to 7 am to 10 pm. The temple falls in route of Jogini Waterfalls and Jogini Temple. Vashisht temple to Beas Kund distance is 23.3 km. 

How to Reach Beas Kund

Beas Kund by Air

Kullu-Manali Airport (KUU) in Bhuntar, which is the nearest airport to Beas Kund and is about 52 km far away from Manali. Only two flights are available from Delhi to Bhuntar daily. Flights from other major cities of India like Chennai and Mumbai are also available. The airport is usually less active. Another Airport is Chandigarh Airport (IXC) which is 139 km from Manali. Further taking a cab or taxi from there to Solang Nallah which is a 12 km drive.

Beas Kund by Train

Chandigarh is the nearest railway station to Manali located about 300km away. Services like buses, cabs, and taxis are available at reasonable prices. There are few trains from Delhi to Beas.

Beas Kund by Road

The roads are well maintained and from Delhi ISBT buses are available. It’s 570 km away from Delhi to Beas Kund by road. The journey can be commenced only till Dhundi Village as it is the last village with proper roads en route to Beas Kund. One can take a ride through a private car or rent a car or cab throughout the journey. 

Best Time to Visit Beas Kund

Beas Kund in Winters ( October- February) 

Beas Kund in winter receives plenty of snowfall. The weather here is extremely cold and chilly. It is the perfect time to enjoy the snowfall spread all over like a white sheet along with family or with friends. Beaskund in winters covered with snow gives the vibe of paradise on earth.

Beas Kund in Summers (March- June)

Beas Kund in summer is the best and peak season to visit. The weather is cool and pleasant despite the bright sunshine. Various flowers bloom at the fullest during this season and the clear sky makes the view clear and photostatic. The weather remains pleasant in the day and gets chilly at night.

Beas Kund in Monsoon ( July - August ) 

Beas Kund in monsoon receives an unpredictable and good amount of rainfall increases the risk of landslides and road blockages. Therefore though it is allowed it is not recommended to visit Beas Kund during the monsoon. Know More
