Viper Island

Viper Island is located in Port Blair and is named after the vessel in which Lt. Archibald Blair came to Andaman. Viper Island was the site of the old jail used by the British to keep prisoners. It was built during 1864-67, the walls of the jail echo the sobs of Indian freedom Fighters. Today the houses two main buildings. The gallows, where most prisoners were hanged. The red building of the courtroom was seen in front of the Viper Island jetty and like the gallows, spent time on the silent island, telling the world its story. This Island is a famous picnic spot but forfeited a few of its sheen post Tsunami. Visiting this place is a great time visit, you can learn about the culture, history and story of the British colonial rule on the island, you can still be seen in the ruins. This island adds to the quintessential affair.
