The village has a documented history of over 500 years and is located near the Arikamedu archaeological site. It has rivers on both sides, which helps fishermen secure their boats during cyclones because the rivers absorb the bulk of the swell in the sea. The surrounding village is still green because it is well-watered and nutrient-rich. One of the most important festivals in Veerampattinam is the Temple Car Festival, in which thousands of devotees pull huge wooden chariots using a thick natural rope. It's a sight to behold!
