The Taranga Hills, which are about 20 kilometers from Vadnagar and are part of the Aravali range, have strong Buddhist links. You begin your journey up the Taranga hills from the banks of the Saraswati. While the oldest Jain temple was built in the 12th century, Buddhist temples on this hill date back to the 4th century. It takes a long walk to get to the top of the hill. Small shrines dedicated to the Buddhist Goddess Devi Taranamata can be found as you approach. Cave formations include weathered terracotta Buddha images as well as four carved images of Dhyani Buddha on a stone plate.
