Shravasti

During the time of Gautam Buddha, Sravasti in Uttar Pradesh was one of India's six largest cities. The epic Mahabharata mentions the city, which is thought to be named after the legendary King Shravasti. According to Buddhist legend, it was named after the sage Savattha who lived there. Sravasti is a major Buddhist pilgrimage site that draws visitors from all over the Buddhist world, including Sri Lanka, Japan, China, and Thailand. During his stay in Sravasti, Buddha spent the most time at the Jetavana Monastery.
