Nameri National Park has situated in the Sonitpur district of state Assam. It is located at the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas and is 40 km from Tezpur. Nameri National Park has spread over an area of 1,000 sq. km. It was declared a reserve in 1978. The park consists of semi-evergreen deciduous forest with bamboo brakes and cane and narrow strips of grassland along rivers. the area is crisscrossed by the river Jia-Bhoroli and its tributaries namely the Diji, Dina, Doigurang, Nameri, Dikorai and Khari etc. Some of the other animals that can be seen here are capped langurs, wild boars, bisons, giant squirrels, black bears, leopards and sloth bears.
