Murud Janjira is a well-known port located just off the coast of Murud, a coastal village in Maharashtra's Raigad District. This fort, which was once famously occupied by the Siddi Dynasty, boasts of being the only one in its team to survive multiple attacks by the Marathas, the Portuguese, the Dutch, and the English East India Company. The name Janjira comes from no Indian language. It gets its name from the Arabic word Jazeera, which loosely translates to "island." Murud, on the other hand, was once referred to as Habsan or Habshi, which means Abyssinian in Marathi.
