Kavaratti, the administrative capital of Lakshadweep, is the most populated of the islands, with the largest proportion of non-islanders living there. There are 52 mosques on the island, the most beautiful of which is the Ujra mosque. Within its confines, a well is said to contain water with healing properties. The ornately carved ceiling of the Ujra mosque is said to have been carved from a piece of driftwood. Kavaratti also has an aquarium with a variety of colourful fish.
