Guptkashi is one of the important spiritual sites in the state of Uttrakhand. It is 47 km before the holy temple of Lord Shiva, Kedarnath. Guptkashi is where Lord Shiva reside in the form of Vishwanath(Lord of Universe). It lies en route to Kedarnath, settles in the prolific green Mandakini river valley that has a bounty of magnolia flowers. Pandavas during the time of exile search Lord Shiva and this was the place where they first spotted him. Apart from this, it is home to many ancient shrines like Vishwanath Temple and Ardhnareshwar Temple. The temple Vishwanath dedicated to Lord Shiva and Ardhnarishwara is a temple of half man and half woman temple of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The main attraction of the town is Manikamik kund is a place where two streams of the Ganga and Yamuna meet.
