Covelong (Kovalam) is approx 40kms south of Chennai and it is a fish village in Chennai. It is a port town developed by the Saadat Ali and Nawab of Carnatic and later taken by the French in 1746 but 1752 destroyed by Britisher. Afterwards, Dutch constructed a fort in Covelong during the colonial era. Covelong beach is one of the limited places on the East Coast where surfing takes place.
