Bhimashankar

According to the Shiv Puran, the Bhimashankar temple is the 6th jyotirlinga of the total 12th jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple resides in the ghat region of the Sahyadri mountains (Pune), this place gives a mesmerizing view of them around the local rivers and hills station. The Bhimashankar temple situated at an elevation of around 3,250 hoofs from sea levels. Bhimashsnkar also dedicated to Wildlife Sanctuary, various flora & fauna because it is part of the Western ghat. A rare animal found in the sanctuary is called Shekaru, which is a big squirrel, live in deep timbers. It is also famous for trekking. The Bhimashankar temple was built in the 13th century by Nana Phadnavis. The temple is created in Hemadpanti style. It is mainly in Maharashtra state. In this temple, Lord Shiva is shown in the half-man and half-woman form. The phrase Bhimashankar arose from the river Bhima, which is vanished due to the arise war between Lord Shiva and the demon Tripurasura according to mythology.
