Almora

Almora, a small district in the state of Uttrakhand which is 65 km from Nainital. It is believed that Almora has obtained its name from Kilmore, a kind of sorrel(A short Plant) commonly found here. It is situated at an average elevation of 1638 mts from sea level and spread across a 5kms ridge at the southern edge of Kashyap Hill. Almora is famous for its rich cultural heritage, distinct handicrafts and delicious cuisines. The Pleasant landscape of Almora attracts hundreds of tourist each year and tourism is one of the famous places in the Kumaon Region. Almora is also for temples like Chitai and Nanda Devi, Spectacular snowy peaks of the Himalayas, quaint cottages and the bounty of flora and fauna. Almora has several shopping centres which also includes the 200 Years old Lala Bazaar.
