Bhimtal is a small paradise near the Kumaon region about 22 km away from the Nainital district. Bhimtal is a 200-year-old town with a historical story. The town is named after the popular character of Mahabharat, whose name was Bhim. It is believed that Bhim visited the bank of Bhimtal Lake and the old Shiva temple during the exile to quench his thirst and also built a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. While crossing the Bhimtal after 5 km you will find the Hidimba Parvat which is named after Bhim’s demon wife “Hidimba”. Now there is an attractive wildlife sanctuary named “Vankhandi Ashram” After moving the 2 km away from Hidimba Parvat you will find the mesmerizing lake called Damayanti Tal. This lake is considered to be a holy place by the locals.
