Tehri

Tehri, a town that lies on the Bhagirathi River and is located in the west-central part of the Uttarakhand state has a story behind it. Tehri was established at just Rs.700 by Maharaja Sudarshan Shah and is known as Old Tehri. That town was beautiful and was once the capital of the Tehri dynasty. There is a dam whose construction began in 1978 and it opened in 2006. Due to the making of the dam, the entire town was in danger and this was not accepted by the people of Tehri. It was a difficult time for Tehri. The administration pretended to support the people, but none of the protests worked in their favor. After the dam was constructed over the town, the entire town was immersed under Tehri Lake. Almost 1 lakh people were relocated to New Tehri and the rest became history. A big town now remains under the lake and in the photographs and memories of the local people. The old Tehri city is now underwater.

Rishikesh

Rishikesh is all about grand temples, traditions, architectural marvels, yoga ashrams, and adventure sports. Mussoorie

Mussoorie, a small hill town located in the Dehradun district of Uttarakhand in the lap of the Garhwal Himalayas. Mussoorie was loved by British Officials, hence British soldiers used to come and stay at the place. This beautiful hill station was established by Captain Young in 1825. This serene town was called Mansuri erstwhile but is now renowned as Mussoorie. In 1842 Mussoorie had 42 houses, five barracks, and a hotel. The tourists came from different places and started calling it ‘Queen of the Hill Stations'.

Uttarakhand Geography:

Uttarakhand is separated into a number of physiographic zones that run parallel to one another from northwest to southeast.

This zone contains the majority of the main summits. The Lesser Himalayas, also known as the Himachal, is located adjacent to and south of the Great Himalayas, with elevations ranging from 6,500 to 10,000 feet (2,000 to 3,000 meters); the zone comprises two linear ranges: the Mussoorie and the Nag Tibba. A section of the Siwalik Range lies to the south of Himachal Pradesh. The Kumaun Himalayas encompass the Himadri, Himachal, and Siwalik mountain ranges.
The Siwalik Range's southern edge combines with the Bhabar, a narrow bed of gravel and alluvium that connects to the southeast with the Tarai, a marshy area. The total elevations of Siwalik-Bhabar-Tarai range from 1,000 to 10,000 feet (300 to 3,000 meters). Flat-floored depressions, known locally as duns, such as the Dehra Dun, can be found south of the Siwaliks.
