Triund History

Triund is a jewel of Dharamshala, situated in the lap of the Dhauladhar mountain range. Triund is a trekking destination that starts from Mcleodganj, a vibrant hill town named after Donald Mcleod, the lieutenant governor of Punjab. It was disturbed by the 1905 Kangra earthquake and sank into obscurity after independence. Afterward, the Dalai Lama arrived to find his base here in 1960. Henceforth, Mcleodganj became a centre of Tibetan culture and Buddhism and the residing capital of the Dalai Lama.

Trekking in Triund is fairly easy for the first few miles but the last one kilometer, popularly known as the 22 curves, is slightly difficult to climb. There are several tea shops along the way, one can stop for a refreshing drink. It is said that the trek to Triund is one of the easiest treks with a breathtaking view.

Triund Geography

Triund, a small hill station in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. Triund is situated at the elevation of 2850m (9350 ft) from sea level and has a panoramic view, offering trekkers what they are looking for. Dhauladhar Range is visible from Triund and is a part of the Lesser Himalayas, running parallel to the Shivalik Range and the Greater Himalayas. The Dhauladhar range emerges from the Indian Planes and ends near Badrinath, Uttarakhand.

Indrahar pass

Dal Lake in Dharamshala is a popular natural destination, a beautiful lake surrounded by deodar trees and filled with lush greenish water. Take a detour of Dalai Lama Temple in McLeodGanj.

Triund Trek

Triund trek is one of the easiest and popular treks for weekend getaways. Triund is an ideal destination for a hassle-free trekking experience. The trek can be done throughout the year but the number of tourists is less during monsoon and winters. The base camp for the trek starts from Dharamkot and Gallu Devi Temple. Triund trek is ideal for all trekkers be it the first-timers, experienced trekkers, or adventure seekers, this trek is for everyone. It passes through peaceful rhododendron forests which have tricky curves and bright meadows. One can also stop for tea and snacks.

Bhagsunag Waterfall

Bhagsunag waterfall is 11kms from Dharamshala, Bhagsunag waterfall is the best attraction in Dharamshala. It is known for its fresh waterfall and old temples. Tourists take dips in the cold water and seek Lord Shiva’s blessings in the temple. Despite being at a little distance from the town of Dharamshala, tourists make sure to visit this temple because of its importance to pilgrims.

Popularly known as the “Little Lhasa of India”, it is also known as the residence of the Tibetan Monk, Dalai Lama. Tourists come here for spirituality, adventure, and simply exploring the place and witnessing the beauty of the place. Also known as the Mini Tibet of India, the place has a few monasteries as well. Triund is near Mcleodganj at a distance of 9km.

Best Time To Visit Triund

Triund Weather
During the monsoon season and winters, the number of tourists is less, including July, August, and January, February, respectively. However, the Triund trek can be done throughout the year and during spring and summer. The months between March to June have the best month for the Triund trek. The post-monsoon season is also the best time to visit Triund with the clearest view of mountain peaks. In December, you can experience the first snowfall of the season.

Summers begin from March, lasting for four months when the weather is clear and pleasant, with maximum temperatures rising to 26℃ and minimum temperatures dropping to 8℃.
Triund In Monsoon
July marks the onset of monsoon and the region becomes muddy but with spectacular views. The maximum temperature rises to 22℃ and the minimum temperature drops to 14℃.

Gaggal Airport is the nearest airport to Mcleodganj and very limited flights of few airlines serve. Apart from that Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh International Airport in Chandigarh, Shree Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar, and Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, serves as the closest and major airports to Mcleodganj.

Triund By Road

Numerous buses of state governments and private companies connect Mcleodganj with various cities of India like Delhi, Chandigarh, Dharamshala, etc. daily. You can easily reach these by bus to Mcleodganj bus stand and afterward hire a taxi to reach anywhere in the city.
