Kasol is a mountain hamlet in the district of Kullu which sits in the gorgeous Parvati Valley. Kasol has situated on the bank of the River Parvati. Kasol is nestled in between Bhuntar and Manikaran. The Kasol bridge divides the two towns of Kasol i.e. Old Kasol and New Kasol. The town is also known as Little Israel for a significant number of Israeli settlers, which has also influenced the local culture. At a walking distance of 2 km from Kasol market, this hamlet is located at the height of 5300 ft. beside the Parvati River. This village is famous for its cafes amidst a dense pine forest and when you walk through the village, you will be exposed to the rustic charm of the old mountain world. While Kasol being a conventional village, the popularity of Chalal is rising among the travelers and backpackers who find this village more tranquil.
These twin villages at a distance of about 3-4km from each other, are more infrequently visited by the mainstream tourists but are quite trending among backpackers and trekkers. The trek to Kalga starts from Barsheni and from there, Pulga is accessible. If you have a spare day at Kasol, Kalga and Pulga are must-visit destinations around Kasol.
This ancient village has its own culture and the villagers consider themselves as the descendants of Alexander The Great. They are untouched by outsiders to date as they believe they are true Aryans and of pure race. Known to be one of the oldest democracies in the world Malana is a must-visit place around Kasol. Also famous for ‘Malana Cream’ this famous village is about 21 km from Kasol.
The tranquil village of Tosh is set at a height of 2400m above sea level and is about 20 km away from Kasol. This village is well known for its cannabis plantation in and around it. Tosh reflects the authenticity and culture of Himachal Pradesh. You will find numerous cafes and homestay here. The cafes certainly have Israeli cuisine on their menu and you will also come across many Israeli tourists in Tosh. Another best thing about Tosh is the view of adjacent mountains and valleys which is simply amazing to watch.
The literal meaning of Kheerganga is the ‘flowing river of rice pudding’. The 12 km trek which covers the dense forest, local villages, bridges, the famous Rudranag Fall, leads to a mesmerizing view of the hilltop where you will feel the presence of spirituality. The trek is considered a moderate one as the first 6 km are tolerable, and the last 3 after the Rudranag Fall are quite steep. But when you pass this tricky trail and reach Kheerganga, the hot water spring welcomes you to soothe your fatigue of the trek.
Situated around 4 km from Kasol on the Bank of the Parvati river, there is a gurdwara called Manikaran Sahib in the small town of Manikaran. This town is a pilgrimage center for both Hindus and Sikhs. This town is blessed with hot water springs and you will see many hot water pools to comfort the tourist. Also, enjoy the langar in the gurdwara which is prepared not by using any fuel but only this hot water spring, amazing isn't it?. In the market, you will find small cloth pouches with uncooked rice which get cooked. The epicenter of Kasol and Barshaini, Manikaran is a must-visit place.
