Naam Art Gallery Mcleodganj (15 Km from Mcleodganj)

Located in Mcleodganj, Naam Art Gallery is a popular gallery among tourists that features the work of famous painters such as Elsbeth Buschmann, a painter from Germany, who has lived in several countries practising her art and the gallery also features the work of A.W.Hallet, which is a popular name in England. Having lived for 40 years in Dharamshala, Hallet became quite popular and thus his paintings are featured in the Naam Art Gallery. Apart from that it also displays contemporary art. If you are one of those people who has a thing for art and paintings then this gallery is where you belong.

Tibet Museum (5 Km from Mcleodganj)

If you are keen on exploring the culture, history, and traditions of Tibet, then look no further. Tibet Museum, located near the Dalai Lama Temple, has preserved the history and culture of Tibet. The museum also displays documentary movies every day between 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. These movies are based on issues related to Tibet and one can find the movie tickets at the entrance counter. Since these documentaries are solely for the purpose of educating people and not to get profit from it, the ticket costs just Rs.10. Photography is strictly prohibited inside the museum, however, there is a special section where one can do still photography by taking permission from the authorities. The pictures taken here cannot be used for any commercial purpose. One should definitely visit this museum to witness the lifestyle and culture of the Tibetans. The Museum remains open from Tuesday to Saturday however on the first and third Saturday of the month, the Museum remains open. Mondays, gazetted holidays, and during the Tibetan festivals, the museum remains closed.

Indrahar Pass

 

Indrahar Pass, about 9km from Mcleodganj is at an elevation of 4342m above sea level. If you are one of those people who are very much interested in trekking but still haven’t tried it then Indrahar Pass is where you should start. This Pass provides trekking opportunities with an easy to moderate level of trekking, giving you a chance to have fun during your trip. Indrahar pass is the border between the districts of Chamba and Kangra. Taking a trek to Indrahar Pass will give you stunning views of the Dauladhar Range and Pir Pranjal Ranges. The best time to do the Indrahar Pass Trek is between September to October.

Tibetan Institute Of Performing Arts (5.2Km from Mcleodganj)

The Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts was founded by the 14th Dalai Lama in the year in 1959 in Kalimpong, however, later the institute was moved to Mcleodganj. Located in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, this institute was established with a vision to protect and preserve the unique and ancient culture of the Tibetans and also its musical heritage. Tibet, popular for its music and dance, this institute aims at preserving the cultural identity of the Tibetans. Apart from that, students who are keen on learning music and dance are given training in traditional folk dance. The members of this institute include training staff, instructors, artists, and students who live here in the institute and take training from the experts. Vegetarian food is served here on the premises with the exception of some days when they are served non-vegetarian food. There is an auditorium that allows students to practice.

Kareri Lake (49.3 Km from Mcleodganj)

Kareri Lake is an untouched high altitude, shallow lake, which not many people know about. Located 9km from the town of Dharamshala in the Kangra district, Kareri lake stands at a towering altitude of 2934 m above sea level. The lake’s water comes from the snow that melts from the Dauladhar Range. The crystal clear water adds more beauty to this already beautiful lake. Kareri Lake is a picnic spot and serves as a trekking destination as one can trek towards Chamba via Minkiani Pass. The lake remains frozen in the winter season during the months between December to March. Dharamkot Village ( Kangra)(6.3 Km from Mcleodganj)

Not very far from Dharamshala and Mcleodganj, in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh is a little Hippie Village called Dharamkot Village. Located just 7km from Mcleodganj, Dharamkot Village is famous for hiking and trekking. The village hardly has any roads except one. Since Mcleodganj and Dharamshala become very crowded during the holiday season, people prefer coming to Dharamkot Village, looking for spirituality. Dharamkot is a yoga village and this place is quite spiritual. It offers mesmerizing views of the Kangra and Dauladhar ranges. This village has an unmatched vibe that you may not find anywhere else. Spirituality, peace, calm, serenity is in the air of Dharamkot Village.

Naddi View Point (4 Km from Mcleodganj)

If you are in Mcleodganj and can’t keep yourself from trekking, then the best trek is just around the corner. About 3km from Mcleodganj is the Naddi Village offering a trek from Mcleodganj to Naddi Village. One also has the option of taking a 25 minutes rickshaw ride but trekkers can have a wonderful time here. Perched at an elevation of 7152 m above sea level, The Village offers panoramic views of the Dauladhar Range and blesses your eyes with lush greenery, scenic beauty, spellbinding views, and a tranquilizing environment. Dal Lake (3 Km from Mcleodganj)

Until now, all of us thought that only Kashmir has Dal Lake but that’s not it. Inspired by Kashmir, Mcleodganj has its very own Dal Lake. Located at an elevation 1583 m above sea level and 3km from Mcleodganj is this very beautiful lake allowing tourists to do boating activities in the lake surrounded by the mountains. There is a temple located at the banks of this lake where people can pray and worship Lord Shiva. From simple to and an extensive level of trekking is also possible here, where people from all age groups can be a part of the trek. One can do fishing in the lake as well but only after taking permission from the authorities. Boating in Dal Lake remains one of the most entertaining activities here. The lake is accessible throughout the year. One can visit Dal Lake anytime they want but if you want to be a part of the much-celebrated tribal festival held every year then you should come during the month of September. With its mesmerizing views, Dal lake gives the opportunity to capture the moments in their camera. Visiting time is between 7:00 am to 8:00 pm.

Kangra Fort (28.4 Km from Mcleodganj)

About 22km from Mcleodganj is a historical landmark sitting on a steep rock, called the Kangra Fort, which is the oldest fort in Himachal Pradesh. The fort has unique architectural designs and has a deep history of wars and loots. It also houses three temples including Ambika Devi, Laxmi Narayan, and Sheetla Mata temple. The fort has several doors with names such as Jehangir Darwaza, Ahani Darwaza, and Amiri Darwaza. Covering a 4km area, the fort has 15ft high walls and a 7m long passage that allows only two men or a horse to pass through in one go. It also has a watchtower with a polygonal shape that provides spellbinding views. If you are one of those people, who are interested in traveling along with learning the history of the destination and going into the depths of the story of the architecture, then you are in the right place. Kangra fort has a history worth knowing, with several wars and massacres, Kangra Fort still stands with its head held high in the beautiful state of Himachal Pradesh.

Dalai Lama Temple (5Km from Mcleodganj)

Dalai Lama Temple, also called the Tsuglakhang Temple is located in Dharamshala, which is one of the holy cities of Himachal Pradesh. The temple is called the Dalai Lama Temple for the simple reason that his highness Dalai Lama visits the temple twice or sometimes even thrice a year to preach to the followers. This temple has become a pilgrimage spot that too an important one probably because it is very close to the residence of Dalai Lama. People from all over the country visit the temple to seek spirituality and peace of mind and sometimes in the hope of seeing the Dalai Lama with their own eyes. The temple houses various large statutes such as that of Buddha. It also has several religious textbooks and shops inside the temples that sell ancient books. The temple is famous for its religious significance and also because of its beauty and its location. 

Gunna Devi (8.6 Km from Mcelodganj)

Perched at an elevation of 2310 m above sea level, in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, lie the Gunna Devi Temple, which is an important pilgrimage destination and is dedicated to Goddess Kali. The temple, being 8km from Mcleodganj, holds a religious significance for the Gaddi-shepherd who are semi-nomadic groups. The temple, due to its high altitude also allows trekking activities, so trekkers are in for a treat here. The temple is surrounded by forests all over and offers some stunning views. Outside the temple, you can find small eateries where you can do light snacking. On the inside, the temple also provides mattresses, blankets, and sheets for traveler’s who wish to spend the night at the temple. The trek to Gunna Devi Temple covers a distance of 8km and takes almost 7 hours to finish. You will come across various villages and streams.
