Pauri Garhwal is a district that is the most scenic place in the Garhwal region in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, headquarters is in the town of Pauri. It is also sometimes referred to as Garhwal district but the Garhwal region is larger it shouldn’t be confused.  Pauri Garhwal is known for being naturally unique and exclusive. Pauri Garhwal Geography

Pauri Garhwal is a beautiful hidden treasure town in the Pauri district of the Garhwal region in the gigantic plain and partly in the northern Himalayas. Encompassing 5230 ㎢ at an altitude of 1814m above sea level on the slopes of the Kandoliya Hills. The district is bordered by Chamoli, Rudraprayag & Tehri Garhwal in the North, Bijnor & Udhamsingh Nagar in the South, Almora & Nainital in the East, Dehradun & Haridwar in West. Pauri Garhwal district is the headquarter of Pauri and the district is administratively divided into 9 tehsils namely; Pauri, lands down, Kotdwar, Thalisain, Chobattakhal, Srinagar, Satpuli, Dhumakot & Yamkeshwar, and fifteen development blocks. As a part of the Western Himalayas, it presents a unique set of an ecological complex variety of systems that incorporates forest, meadows, grasslands, marshes, rivers, wildlife, several other peculiarities. The Nayyar river decides Alaknanda is the major river of the district as well as major tributaries of Alaknanda which is the confluence of eastern and western Nayyar at Satpuli. Ransi Stadium

Located about 3km from Pauri at an altitude of 2133m above sea level and it is the second-highest stadium in Asia. Being the popular stadium many games and tournaments are often held here frequently also numerous football matches take place in this stadium. From the town, the stadium is only 2.5km from the town surrounded by dense deodar, pine, and oak trees which make it more ideal than the usual attractive destination and is mostly popular for picnicking. For sports lovers, one can play cricket, football, or any other game of choice along with the beautiful snow-clad Himalayas in the background which supplies energetic vibes. From here one can also go for Kyunkaleswar Shiva Temple which is a nearby distance of 3km. Currently, is the stadium is under construction to meet the international standards level.

 Kandoliya Temple

This temple is located in the dense forest of Oak and Pine on Kandolia hills which is about 2km from the Pauri. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and many devotees from India as well as foreign visit this beautiful place for blessing. Adjacent to this temple there is a beautiful park, sports complex and within few meters, there’s Asia’s highest stadium Ransi. The place is in a scenic set up, peaceful, and will give a wonderful view of the mountains and the Pauri city. Here Lord Shiva is worshipped by the name of Kandoliya Thakur and massively respected religious site and one can have a panoramic view of Pauri. During summers Kandolia Park witnesses the happy, peaceful, cheering, laughing, and funfilled families from the locals.

Danda Nagaraja Temple

Danda Nagaraja Temple is located in the Benelushua Patti, 37 km from Pauri dedicated to Lord Shree Krishna. It is the unique incarnation of Lord Krishna and has a lot of recognition and is the main center of faith in the Pauri district and Garhwal region. Numerous ardent followers of Lord Krishna visit here all over the year coming from across the country. It is also believed that this place is Lord Krishna’s first time visited and also believe that one who seeks something good will get the wish fulfilled if prayed with a pure and clean heart in Danda Nagaraja Temple. In this temple a large number of a priest performs pooja for devotees and returns some divine morsels. And of the best things, while visiting this place is, there are multiple numbers of shops and rest house in and around the temple.

Jwalpa Devi Temple

Jwalpa Devi Temple is located on the bank of Nawalika River and is 34 km from Pauri dedicated to the Goddess Jwalpa Devi also well known as Shakti Peetha. It stands as one of the most amazingly beautiful religious spots in the region. The temple was constructed by Late Dutta Ram Anthwal.  Every year during Navaratri’s there is special worship that is offered here and people from far from the place visited here to pray and get their wishes fulfilled. According to the legend, the daughter of the demon king, Sachi who wanted to marry Indra worshiped Goddess Shakti in this temple hence appeared in front of her in the form of Deeptimaan Jwalehwari and granted her wish. Again in another belief, Adi Guru Shankaracharya once visited this temple and prayed and Devi appeared in front of him satisfying his devotion and offers. Many flocks visited this temple especially single and unmarried, girls, in the belief of getting their best grooms through divine prayers. On the occasion of Navaratri and Janmashtami, a large fair is organized at Jvalpa Devi Temple.

Nag Dev Temple

Nag Dev Temple is one of the popular attractions located at a distance of 3.7 km from Pauri. It is dedicated to the serpent God Nag ( Snake God), popular among locals, and many tourists visit throughout the year. Located in the dense forest and to reach here one needs an adventure trek of 1.5 km in a dense forest of pine and Rhododendron. In above, the epic trek one can get a gigantic and thrilling view of magnificent breathtaking Himalayan ranges like Banderpoonch, Chaukhamba, Gangotri Group, Kedarnath, Kedardron, etc.

Chaukhamba View Point

Chaukhamba View Point is the famous perfect scenic of Idwal Valley that the visitor witnesses the greatness of Gangotri glaciers which is the origin of the holy river Gang. This viewpoint is 4km from the Pauri, a mesmerizing place offering panoramic captivity views and the thick cover of Rhododendron and oak forest. Kandoliya Temple

Bud Bharsaar Temple is an ancient temple at the hilltop with quite fascinating is located at a  distance of 12 km from Pauri which is produced by the nature itself, a God gifted place. The temple is also near Buransi Village, and the mystery of this temple is, the temple is not made by humans but by nature itself. This God gifted temple is 4267 m above sea level and famous for its mystery creat and offers an enchanting splendid view, as well as one, can feel heavenly on earth. Kyunkaleshwar Mahadev Temple

Kyunkaleshwar Mahadev Temple is among the ancient that was built in the 8th century dedicated to Lord Shiva along with Goddess Parvati, Karthikeya, and Ganesha. The temple is situated in the outskirt area of the Pauri Town at about 2 km and about 41 km from Kotdwar founded by Adi Guru Shankaracharya. This Hindu pilgrimage is a charm with a celestial view of snow-clad Himalayas peaks and is also known to house of Samadhis of many sages amid thick green forests. Tara Kund

Places to Visit Near Pauri Garhwal

Sita Mata temple at Phaswari

It is a famous holy temple located at a distance of 156 km from Pauri. In May, a famous fair is organized where many people and tourists gather to worship and enjoy. It is believed that Sita Mata took Bhoot Samadhi at Phalswari village and once there was a temple of Mata Sita. A small rock came out in the land which is prayed as Go0ddess Sita and the fair remain out for three days that attracts a lot of devotees in huge number. After three days tube rock will go back to earth marking the end of the fair. One can also visit the Valmiki Temple which is situated nearby only to soak more in the religious realm.

Rajaji National Park

Rajaji national park is also a Tiger reserve near the foothill of the Himalayas which is spread over 3 districts of Uttarakhand, Haridwar, Dehradun, and Pauri Garhwal, and situated at a distance of 180km from the Pauri. It is one of the most wonderful wild reserves in the Pauri Garhwal region and the geography increased the species heterogeneity of the land. This adventurous National park which passes territory between the western Himalayas and the middle Himalayas is perfect for nature enthusiasts who like to experience real wildlife. Darwan Singh Regimental museum

It is a historical Museum base on defense and preserves the element used by the Garhwal Regiment located 83 km from Pauri. And the museum is dedicated to Darwan Singh who fearlessly fought and impressed everyone with his performance and courage and was awarded the victoria cross during the Pre-independence period. The two-story building exhibits a Battle scene of both pre and post-independence periods, a portrait of a brave soldier, customs, traditions, rich certificates, documents, etc. There is also a beautiful flower garden outside the museum on can enjoy the scenic serenity here.
