Naukuchiatal History

Naukuchiatal is a beautiful place located in the beautiful hills of Kumaon, the Nainital district of Uttarakhand. It is also known as ‘Lake of Nine Corner’  and is also commonly known as a lake district. Surrounded by enchanting hills on every corner. It is the gateway to heaven for nature enthusiasts as well as a hub for weekend tourists with the experience of captive lush green panoramic mesmerizing view along with pleasant weather. Bhuransh, a local squash is very famous here one can take it as souvenirs. In this place, one can experience boating, paddling, rowing, yachting,  birdwatching. The major attraction here is the annual music fest i.e Escape which is hot and happening every year in May which attracts lots of tourists. There is also a lot of attraction like temples and lakes which is about 1km in lengthy and 40 m in depth.

Naukuchiatal Geography

This beautiful destination is situated at 1220 m above sea level. The lake is located about 4km from BhimTal and 26 km from Nainital also 320 km from Delhi. It is the deepest lake in the Nainital region with a length of about 983 m, breadth of 693 m, and depth of about 40 m.

Temperature in Naukuchiatal

Naukuchiatal in summer (March-June)

Naukuchiatal in summer (March-June): The temperature in summer is between 11°C to 30℃. The best time to visit is summer, which is the warm summer, along with the clear blue sky makes it more pleasant which adds on more shimmer to the surrounding serene and also a great time for adventure activity.

Naukuchiatal in Monsoon (July-September)

Naukuchiatal in Monsoon (July-September): The temperature during the monsoon is between 20  to 25. There is moderate rainfall and will experience slippery landslides since it is a hilly region so not suited for visiting here in monsoon.

Naukuchiatal in Winter (September-February)

Naukuchiatal in Winter (September-February): The temperature here in winter is between 0℃ to 20℃ which will be a breezy and fresh breath, one may also manifest heavy snowfalls and the perfect time for honeymooners.

Naukuchiatal Lake

This lake is situated at 3996 above sea level and is one of the most desirable famous locations for many activities like paragliding, parasailing, fishing, swimming, boating, etc. which is about 2km from Naukuchiatal. There are also various lovely exotic birds inhabiting here and a magnificent mountain range as well as colorful butterflies which the frame perfect. One more mystery is that this lake water never falls short and also believes that one who witnesses all nine corners of the lake with feet can help to achieve nirvana. Naukuchiatal lake can be visited any time but summer will be the best to experience the fragrance of tranquil peace.                      

Bhimtal Lake

It is located in the Bhimtal town of the Nainital district of Uttarakhand with an elevation of over 4500 ft. It is the famous and largest lake as well as supplying drinking water. The lake expands C shaped about 47 hectares, located at a distance of 3km from Naukuchiatal. There’s a variety of activities around the lake and also an aquarium with a variety of fish displays and a temple as well. There’s the belief that the clear water will turn brown only after the lake claims the victim then will turn clear water again. This famous attraction also has an island at the center where one can experience a tranquil atmosphere at every step. One can also go boating or take a calm walk along feeding the ducks. The timing of this famous mesmerizing destination timing is from 09:00 AM-06:00 PM.

Jungliagaon

It is a hotspot and a haven for nature enthusiasts located 8km from Naukuchiatal which attracts lots of wildlife photographers, it is one of the pride of Uttarakhand. Many people spend here to soak in the bluish-green mountain range and natural eye-catching views which stole the heart of visitors at a glance. Above these, various flora and fauna are dazzling here with solitude and entrancing beauty.

Hanuman Temple/ Vaishno Devi Temple 

It is located at  2km before reaching Naukuchiatal and this alluring place is for Lord Hanuman devotees where a high statue of 52ft will be at the entrance which is like a cave and this cave is artificial made which leads to the popular Vaishno Devi Shrine again surrounded by the temple. It comprises many sections like Shani Temple, Ram Darbar Temple, Meditation Room, Resting area for Pilgrims, and three temples in the main complex. This tremendous backdrop of valley and mountain adds to a marvelous breathtaking environment. The timing for visiting here is 05:00 AM- 11:00 PM.

Sattal Lake

It is located 12km from Naukuchiatal and situated at the lower Himalayan range near Bhimtal and is an amassment of seven freshwater lakes which is in Kumaon Region with an elevation of 1370 m above the sea level bound by the lush green cover of pines and oaks and massive butterfly museum and insect as well, the reason being highly recommended and also home for a various migratory bird. In addition to the paradise of nature, Sattal also has a Mission estate and a Methodist ashram on the banks of the river. The weather here is pleasant throughout the year and is best for photographers and nature lovers.

Shopping in Naukuchiatal

Shopping is the best part after visiting a destination. There are not many options for shopping in Naukuchiatal except for a few art emporiums and local markets but shopping here is a different joy. It is only 2km away from Naukuchiatal or shopping at nearby Nainital which is about 27km

Naukuchiatal by Air

  • The nearest Airport to reach Naukuchiatal is Pant NagarAirport which is 70km and also Dehradun Airport which is 182km. One can also come directly from Indira Gandhi International Airport which is 282 km, connecting both domestic and international. From Airport one can easily hire a taxi/ cab to proceed to Naukuchiatal.

Naukuchiatal by Train

  • The nearest Railway station is Kathgodam which is 26 km from Naukuchiatal and connects to almost all major cities of India. One can hire a taxi/ cab easily outside the station or can take buses to proceed to the destination.

Naukuchiatal by Road

  • There are lots of taxi/cab services to reach here that are easily accessible and well connected by road, one can also take state-owned buses or private buses that run regularly from Uttarakhand to neighboring states. One can reach Naukuchiatal from Nainital, 26km and Bhimtal 4kms, and also Delhi which is 320km on NH 74 and NH 24 via road. For reaching along with the medium of nature, hiring a Cab is recommended.

It is located at a distance of 5.1 km, Bhimtal Daant Near the Main Boating stand from Naukuchiatal with great hospitality and service. The cuisines here are focuses on Indian, Chinese, Italian, Indian, and Indian American along with eyecatching views.

The Kumaoni Farm Cafe

It is located in the village Dhulai at Bhimtal which is  11.1 km from Nuakuchiatal. The cuisine here is only focused on Indian, Cafe with Vegetarian Friendly and Vegan Options. 

But this farm cafe has to reserve prior before experiencing a natural friendly breezy environment.

Do’s and Dont's in Naukuchiatal

Do`s

  • During winter heavy Woolen clothes are advisable since it’s a hilly area.
  • Do wear a mask for safety precautions.
  • Do follow rules and regulations is highly recommended while visiting the lake.
  • Do carry a water bottle and small snacks for instant energy carry Glucose.
