Located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, Mana Village is popularly known as the Last Indian Village from the border of India/Tibet and is situated on the banks of river Saraswati. Mana Village is almost 24km from the India/Tibet border which makes it the last village in India. Apart from that, it also holds religious importance among the Hindus since the Mana villages’ history dates back to the time of Mahabharata and there is a common belief that the Pandava brothers passed through this village before they went to heaven. Also, the place has a bridge made of stone called Bheema Pul, which is believed to have been made by Bheema who was one of the five Pandava brothers.
Surrounded by Himalayan hills, Mana sits at a height of 3219 m above sea level. Due to its height, Mana Village is among the highest villages in the country. Locals often name their shops as the ‘Last tea shop of India’, ‘Last post office of India’, and so on. The NH58 begins from this village and connects it to Delhi via Badrinath, Modinagar, Meerut, and Haridwar.
Vyas Cave also called Vyas Gufa, situated at the banks of the river Sarawati is almost 5.5km from Badrinath bus stand. This place is historically as well as religiously significant because sage Vyas, who was one of the characters of the Mahabharat epic and is also believed to have compiled the work with the help of Lord Ganesha. Apart from that, he also wrote several Puranas, Brahma Sutras, and Vedas. The cave also has a statue of Maharishi Vyas installed and pilgrims visit the cave to worship it. Behind the cave is a fascinating story of how Sage Vyas asked Lord Ganesha’s help to take down his dictation to which Lord Ganesha kept a condition that Vyas was not supposed to stop even for a moment or else he would stop writing, so eventually while writing his pen broke and he took a part of his tusk and used it as a pen and that explains the broken tusk of Lord Ganesha.
