Lansdowne is among one of the famous hill stations in the Indian state Uttarakhand. It is basically a military quarter area, founded by the name of Lord Lansdowne in 1887 i.e the viceroy of India during the British period. It has a unique serenity unlike other famous hill destinations in the country, these destinations are easily accessible and have well-connected roads. The place gives enchanting views which no one cannot abscond at a glance. Lansdowne was originally known as Kaludanda.

Lansdowne Geography

Lansdowne is a small town in Pauri Garhwal district Uttrakhand, India founded by the name of Lord Lansdowne in 1887 i.e the viceroy of India during the British period. It is situated on the Kotdwar Pauri Road with an elevation of 1780 m above sea level with an area of over 6.09 sq km. This location has majestic views all in one starting from grass to an incomparable environment.

Best time to Visit Lansdowne

Summer in Lansdowne (March-June)

 The temperature during summer is between 15℃ to 30℃ which is hot and humid. Summer is the best time to visit for adventure lovers along with clear blue sky and pleasant weather. Spotting species at Kalagarh Wildlife Sanctuary or Trekking at Tip n Top/ Hawagarh and boating at the Kho River can be performed here.

Monsoon in Lansdowne ( July-September)

During monsoon, the temperature in Lansdowne falls between 13℃ to 28℃. Rainfall begins in July and heavy rainfall at hill stations but the environment becomes more unique and greenies which is the best suited season for couples. The entire town is covered with dewdrops in the morning and there will be sparkle when the sun rises with lush green trees and forests which make the town more majestic.

Winter in Lansdowne ( October-February)

Winter begins in October with a temperature between 0℃ to 24℃. During winter one will also experience snowfall and also peak season to visit here. It is the season for those who love to chill and experience snowfalls along with the breathtaking beauty of the town and hilly, mountainous views. There are several festivals during winter with cheerful evenings.

War Memorial Lansdowne

It is the main attraction of Lansdowne which is known as the pride of Garhwal rifles, located at the Parade Ground in Lansdowne. Lansdowne War memorial is for those tourists who love to soak in the history of the Indian Army. It is also known as Garhwal Rifles War Museum and the distance is 450m from Lansdowne market road.

Bhulla Lake 

It is one of the most favorite spots among locals and tourists for simple relaxation, Bhulla lake is made up of a well-maintained serene lake maintained by the Indian Army. It is a popular attraction for its blissful strolling clean atmosphere, An amusement park is located nearby which is famous among kids and also offers boating facilities to experience scenic beauty while floating on the water. Bhulla means younger brother. Bhulla Lakeis also known as Bhullatal.

Snow Viewpoint and Hawaghar

Snow Viewpoint and Hawaghar are beautiful viewpoints from the top. It is totally worth short tracking. The 360 view from the peak is of course mesmerizing. Trekking here is one of the most magnificent things to do in Lansdowne.

Corbett National Park

It is popular for Tiger reserve that lies in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand and about 54 km from Lansdowne. It has a mesmerizing landscape that is well known for its fabled tiger richness. Corbett has the glory of oldest India’s most prestigious National Park which spans over an extent of 520 km² with unique tiger territory known to protect the most endangered species of Tiger. The national park is comprised of marshy depressions, a large lake, riverine belts, and hills as well as it allows to stay overnight in the lap of the park. This park is best for those who are nature and wildlife enthusiasts, one can explore the park in an open jeep or on an elephant's back which makes it more add-on to the burning vibes of glance beyond the imagination. The nearest Airport to Lansdowne is jolly Grant i.e in Dehradun since there is no own airport. One can easily come from any major city like Delhi, Mumbai, etc, and hire a taxi to proceed directly to Lansdowne which is about 140km (4 hours) from the airport.

Lansdowne By Rail

The Nearest railway station will be Najibabad Junction Railway Station and Kotdwara Railway Station which is about 45 km (1 hour) from Lansdowne. One can hire a cab/taxi to reach Lansdowne.

Lansdowne By Road

There are numerous numbers of buses, cars, taxis to reach Lansdowne, and the connectivity of roads is well linked. The distance from Delhi is about 250 (7-8 hours), Kotdwara 45km (1-2 hours). One can travel by enjoying the magical views on the roads.
