After the Independence of India, the Indian government decided to carve the Bageshwar region out of Almora, and after that Kausani got its recognition. Kausani is known as “The Switzerland of India” because once upon a time Mahatma Gandhi got mesmerized by the beauty of Kausani and he called this place Switzerland of India. Kausani is famous because of the attractive valley of Someshwar, the most famous temple of Lord Shiva. The famous things to buy from Kausani are Kumaoni Jams, Pickles, and Chutneys. There is also a museum in this Ashram exhibiting words and photographs of Mahatma Gandhi at the time of staying in the Ashram.
