Kalpa Weather and Temperature



Kalpa is a small picturesque village in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh with an average elevation of 2960m above sea level,  7 kilometers from Reckong Peo, and 14 kilometers from Shimla Kaza Highway on the NH5. It is a paradisiacal destination for nature lovers and is inhibited by the Kinnauri people also known for its apple orchards. The people of Kalpa follow Buddhism and Hinduism. Kalpa is the perfect opportunity for spiritual enlightenment in the lap of the Himalayas along with many beautiful Buddhist monasteries.  From here one can witness Mount Kailash, Mt. Raldang, and Jorkanden which is surrounded by tall mountains and glittering peaks of the Kinnaur Kailash range and boasting a fantastic environment with the majestic visual spectacle of its changing colors throughout the day. Kalpa also has numerous attractions and treks to do with stunning vistas and lush green forests of pine trees, that will enthrall tourists with its tranquillity and serenity. The temperature in Kalpa is enjoyable and perfect for a holiday among friends and families, located at the base of the Kinnaur Kailash range the Shivling peaks rise up to 6,000 m. 

Summer in Kalpa (April-June)

Summer is the best time to visit Kalpa, with temperatures between 8°C - 24°C, the weather in Kalpa is pleasant during this time and the sky remains clear which is the perfect time to view the Kinnaur-Kailash ranges. It is ideal for sightseeing and adventure activities like rafting on the Sutlej River, trekking in Spiti Valley, and overnight camping, road trip, etc. And all routes, including treks and roads, are open during this time in full-swing, also considered as the peak season.

Kalpa in April

April is the beginning of the Spring season. The temperature during this month is between 10°C in the daytime and 0°C in the nighttime with an average rainfall of 10 days and 12 hours a day length. It will still be cold but it’s the best time to visit here in Kalpa to enjoy the pleasant weather. The entire region starts to open and prepare for the tourist season ahead.

Kalpa in May

The average temperature in Kalpa in May is between 15°C in the daytime and 5°C in the nighttime with an average rainfall of 7 days and 13-hour days length. It is one of the best months to visit Kalpa where the weather will be very pleasant, with moderately warm days and pleasantly cool nights. One can witness a clear view of the Kinner Kailash peaks, perfect timing for a family trip. 

Kalpa in June

The average temperature in June rises up between 18°C in the daytime and 8°C in the nighttime. It is very enjoyable and will be another great month to visit the place with family. The average rainfall during this month is 6 days and 14 hours day length.

Monsoon in Kalpa (July-September)

During the monsoon season in Kalpa, the temperature goes up to an average of 20°C in the day to 8°C-10°C in the night with an experience of moderate to heavy rainfall With unpredictable landslides. A lot of disruption in the transportation system is frequent in this area and slippery  Thus, advisable, an unsafe destination to travel to during these months. And not permitted to go sightseeing and do different activities outside, but this is also a great time to go to Kalpa for simply sit back and relax. The view of tall mountains hidden in the midst of fog and the lush green meadows makes a photographer delight with its pristine atmosphere. So, it is advisable to check the weather forecast before planning a trip in the monsoon.

Kalpa in July

At the end of June, the Kalpa starts pre-monsoon showers started and the following months of July and August belong to the monsoon season. The temperature during the month of July is between 20°C in the daytime and 10°C in Night time with an average rainfall of 17 days with 13 hours a day length. It is prone to landslides and risky to visit sightseeings and to do activities.

Kalpa in August

The temperature during August is between 20°C in the daytime and 10°C in the nighttime with an average rainfall of 18 days, it is highly advisable to check the weather before planning a trip since a sudden landslide may happen and very slippery during monsoon. The day length during this month is 13 hours a day length. But Monsoon is also the time when the best of the views anywhere in the Himalayas is witness washed clean and covered with a green carpet. 

Kalpa in September

September is the also best month to visit in Kalpa since the monsoon came to an end leaving plenty of greenery behind. The temperature is between 18°C  in the daytime and 8°C  in the nighttime, It may still rain at the beginning of the month for an average rainfall of 4 days but will view the fantastic scenery with 12 hours day length.

Winter in Kalpa (October-February)

Temperatures during the winter months rise only up to an average of 15°C to -10°C and it is delightful to visit during the initial winter month of i.e autumn since the entire valley takes on bright shades of orange, brown, and blue. It will witness a huge amount of snowfall and be a little dangerous for people traveling to Kalpa due to slippery roads. But, the view with snow-clad mountains, icy lakes, and the serene atmosphere has its own charm which is worth enjoying and also one can go apple-picking and give a crate of fresh apples as a thoughtful souvenir. 

Kalpa in October

The temperature in the month of October is between 14°C in the daytime and 1°C which marks the arrival of the autumn season. All the blooming greeneries will now turn orange, giving a magical golden touch to the valley with an average rainfall of 2 days. For adventurers lovers, October is the best month to start a trek, and perfect for photographs. The length during October is 11 hours daylength and will start to snow in the upper reaches of the valley.

Kalpa in November

The temperature during November is between 9°C in the daytime and -3°C in the nighttime with an average rainfall of 11 days, it is is overall a bad month to visit unless for trekking. The day length during this month is 10 hours a day length. The scenery at this time is very dull and dry and terribly cold and there won’t even be any snow around. 

Kalpa in December

The temperature during December is between 3°C in the daytime and -9°C in the nighttime with an average rainfall of 4 days, with beautiful snowfalls witnesses. The plan for a winter trip in December is the best thing to do and also to celebrate both Christmas and New year in the Kalpa valley. Since it is the winter season, the day length during this month is 10 hours a day length. 

Kalpa in January

The temperature during January is between -0°C in the daytime and -10°C in the nighttime with an average rainfall of 15 days, with beautiful snowfalls witnesses, It is a good time to go for people wanting to see a live snowfall and the coldest month in Kalpa. Kinnaur Valley gets buried under a thick sheet of snow and turns into a winter wonderland and Kalpa receives a lot of snow which become a favored destination who tourist who wants to see snow, The day length during this month is 10 hours a day length. 

Kalpa in February

The temperature during February is between 3°C in the daytime and -10°C in the nighttime with an average rainfall of 4 days, It is another good month to plan a trip to see snow since there are chances of a snowfall remain throughout the month but the weather will remain cloudy and foggy that might not get a clear view  The plan for a winter trip in December is the best thing to do and also to celebrate both Christmas and New year in the Kalpa valley. Since it is the winter season, the day length during this month is 10 hours a day length. 

Kalpa in March

The temperature during March is between 6°C in the daytime and -7°C in the nighttime with an average rainfall of 12 days, all the snow starts to melt and is mostly all gone by the end of the month but sometimes it snows even in March but both the frequency and intensity reduce, the day length during this month is 11 hours a day length.
