Jaisalmer is a town in the western part of Rajasthan state. The town is famous for yellowish-brown stone and was established by Rawal Jaisal in 1156. During the 12th century, Jaisalmer town was on the success of its power but early in the 14th century, its prosperity declined, after the invasion of the capital by the Muslim Sultan of Delhi, Alauddin Khilji. In Jaisalmer, Mughal supremacy was established and the city entered into political relations with the British in 1818 and 1949 it joined the state of Rajasthan. The Desert National Park gives the opportunities to observe desert foxes, blackbucks, chinkaras, and water holes. The Desert Festival of city Jaisalmer is famous for the colorful and cultural event that attracts many visitors and it’s also famous for fire dancers with the glowing background of the desert.

How to Reach Jaisalmer

Jaisalmer By Air

Jaisalmer doesn’t have a commercial airport. It does have a military airport that supports chartered flights only. The nearest domestic airport here is Jodhpur Airport, which is the best way to reach Jaisalmer by air. There are regular flights to Jodhpur from other cities of the country like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, and Udaipur. It will take you around 5 to 6 hours to reach Jaisalmer from the airport and another option would be to fly to Delhi, due to the international airport it is connected to numerous countries.

Jaisalmer By Train

Visiting Jaisalmer by train is a good option because it is connected to several cities by train, some popular trains are Delhi Jaisalmer Express, Howrah Jaisalmer Express, there are also some luxury trains like Palace on Wheels which stops in Jaisalmer every Sunday.
