Tungnath is one of the highest Shiva temples in the world, it is believed to be around 1000 years old. The history of the temple takes us back to the era of Mahabharat when after the war of Kurukshetra, Pandavas to attain salvation were in search of Lord Shiva. But Shiva didn’t want to be seen and he hid in the Himalayas in the form of a bull. But Bhim recognized Shiva and ran towards the bull to grab him. However, the bull sank into the earth and its body parts emerged in various locations. The limbs are said to have appeared here in Tungnath and thus, a lingam, which is in the form of a limb is worshipped here. The Tungnath Temple timing is 06:00 AM to 07:00 PM.
