About Tarkeshwar Mahadev

It is a shrine located on a hilltop of Lansdowne which is at an elevation of 2092 m above sea level in Lansdowne. It is an ancient Hindu temple devoted to Lord Shiva situated in the Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. It was surrounded by Deodar trees, Cedar, Pine, and a tranquil atmosphere which makes the best for meditation as well as continuously flowing numerous small water pools. The Tarkeshwar Mahadev was named after lord shiva’s son  Kartikeya kill Tarkasur a demon who worshiped and meditate with Lord Shiva to give a boom of immortality soon after he receives immortality except for lord shiva’s son, he started being evil by killing and threatening gods. After Lord Shiva married Parvati and was born to Kartikeya, he was killed by Kartikeya. Even about to depart soul, Tarkeshwar begged Lord Shiva for forgiveness and Mahadev attach his name to the temple and till today it was known as  Tarkeshwar Mahadev. The great Hindu festival Maha Shivaratri is celebrated here annually, at the entrance of the temple, there’s an open pool for males and a close pool for females to take bath before entering the temple.
