Bhimtal is a small paradise near the Kumaon region about 22 km away from the Nainital district. Bhimtal is a 200-year-old town with a historical story. The town is named after the popular character of Mahabharat, whose name was Bhim. It is believed that Bhim visited the bank of Bhimtal Lake and the old Shiva temple during the exile to quench his thirst and also built a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. In history it is mentioned that the Old Shiva temple was reconstructed by Baz Bahadur, a king of the Chand Dynasty in the 17th Century now it is referred to as the new Shiva Temple. While crossing the Bhimtal after 5 km you will find the Hidimba Parvat which is named after Bhim’s demon wife “Hidimba”. Now there is an attractive wildlife sanctuary named “Vankhandi Ashram” After moving the 2 km away from Hidimba Parvat you will find the mesmerizing lake called Damayanti Tal. This lake is considered to be a holy place by the locals. Bhimtal has many historical linkages and unique tourist attractions which make vicinity in itself. That’s why Bhimtal is one of the most famous destinations in Uttarakhand It’s always worth visiting Bhimtal for its culture, tradition, and stunning views.

How to Reach Bhimtal

Bhimtal By Airways  

Bhimtal by Airways is the most convenient and the nearest airport to Bhimtal is Pantnagar Airport which is 58 km from Bhimtal and connected by the Motorable Roads. Taxis are always available can be covered in 2 hours journey.  Flights of Indigo and Air India are available with stoppage at Dehradun

Bhimtal by Railways

 Kathgodam is the nearest railway station to Bhimtal. Kathgodam has different routes and the most frequent arrival and departure of trains. After reaching Kathgodam you have to take the Taxi or Cabs and Buses are also available.

  • Ranikhet Express
  • Uttranchal Sampark Kranti Express
  • New Delhi-Katgodham Shatabdi Express 

Bhimtal by Road

Bhimtal by Road is much well connected by the motorable road from Nainital which connects almost all the cities of Uttarakhand. If you are traveling from Delhi using public transport then first you have to go to Anand Vihar ISBT where you can take easily a bus to Kathgodam or Nainital. Private taxis are always available for destinations like Nainital, Kathgodam, or Haldwani. After reaching Nainital one can take the state bus terminals to reach Bhimtal at reasonable rates.

  • Dehradun to Bhimtal is approximately 290 km
  • Haldwani to Bhimtal is approximately 29 km
