About 34.6km from Kangra district, in the Kangra Valley of Himachal Pradesh, is a tiny picturesque hill station of Dharamshala. The word Palmpur comes from the word Pulum, which stands for abundant water, probably because of the numerous streams present in the area. It is dedicated to Devi Latti Jakhni and is the highest point of Chandpur Village, located in the Kangra District of Himachal Pradesh. This temple is located at a distance of 7.6km from Palampur and it is advisable to take your own car as the climb up to the temple is a little difficult, however, physically fit people can smartly hike up to the temple. Although the climb is a little difficult, Jakhni Mata Temple still manages to get a good number of tourists every year.

Chamunda Devi Temple(29.2km from Palampur)

On the banks of Baner River in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh is a popular temple called Chamunda Devi Temple. Located at a distance of 29.2km from Palampur, Chamunda Devi is an important Hindu shrine. The temple is dedicated to Maa Chamunda, which accounts for two words, Chanda and Munda, who were apparently two monsters who were killed by Maa Chamunda, who is believed to be an incarnation of Maa Durga. The temple also goes by the name Chamunda Nandikeshwar Dham.

The nearest railway station from Palampur is the Palampur Himachal Railway Station which is narrow gauge and about 5.4km from Palampur, however, there are no direct trains to Palampur, thus one can take a train from Delhi to Pathankot Cantt(Broad Gauge) and from Pathankot to Palampur(Narrow Gauge).  The trains available are Pooja SF express, Shri Shakti, Malwa, Swaraj, Jhelum, etc. One also has the option of taking a taxi or bus to Palampur, which is approximately 120km from Pathankot Cantt. UNA Himachal and Amb Andaura, located at a distance of 135km and 104km from Palampur respectively are other railway stations that are accessible. The trains available from Delhi are Hazur Sahib Nanded-Amb Andaura SF Express. Jan Shatabdi via Chandigarh and Himachal Express. Outside the railway station, you will find a number of taxis and cabs which you can hire to reach Palampur.
