About Landour

Landour procures its name from Landour which is a small Cymru hamlet in Great Britain. At the time of British rule, the British soldiers became wistful. Then the British Indian army constructed and built an infirmary in Landour in the year 1827 for the injured soldiers. From then on Landour has always been a yard for military people and therefore a Cantonment zone. In 1925 the first and primary building was constructed in Mussoorie by Captain Young. The Clock Tower located in Landour manifested the conception of Landour city and Indians were not permitted there. The structure of the road located in Landour forms the number ‘8’. Somebody placed it quite appropriately that ( Chaubis Makaan and Chaar Dukaan) means that it consists of only 24 homes and 4 shops are only that of Landour. Due to the Cantonment act of 1924, all the trees and places covering the area remain with the military people.
